Amazon Fresh

December 30th, 2007 by Nina

I used Amazon Fresh for the first time and I am quite pleased. They don’t deliver to Ballard so I went to one of their pick up locations. I pulled up and right as I was taking my seat belt off, I see a very nice lady running out to meet me in my car. She took my name and went back in. In 3 minutes, I had all my groceries in my car and didn’t even have to get out. This will be nice for surgery.. plus Tom HATES the grocery store.

The produce looked GREAT! I never really liked the stuff I got from Pioneer… sometimes it would have mold two days later or even ON the delivery day. They would always take care of it but it got old. Amazon Fresh has lots of organic and all of it look yummy. I also got a free produce tester pack.. probably cause I am new.

Anyway, highly recommend.

Xmas and stuff

My Christmas was good. My parents, Tom and I headed to Spokane to visit my brother and sister in law. It was mostly a good time. Tom and I played cards a lot and I learned a new game called Skip-Bo which was fun. We had good food and Tom had yummy drinks to keep him sane. The drive wasn’t too bad which is good because Tom had a flight out on Thursday. I got some snazzy gifts like an industrial sized waffle maker, a robe made of bamboo, ugg slippers, a jewelry box, a neckless, and a digital picture frame. My mom also knitted me the best socks ever.

We went out to the Lake on Christmas Day and we saw a ton of Bald Eagles! They like to hang out there because of the Salmon. I have some pictures but I don’t have any snazzy lenses to really get good pictures.

I am getting ready for my surgery which is on Wednesday this week. I picked up my knee scooter and got my disabled parking pass in the mail. Tom loves the disabled parking pass and so do I! I feel bad taking so much time off work lately especially since I got a promotion but I do have the time… I will deal. I am going to get long term pain relief with a catheter in my leg. It makes my leg painless for 72 hours. At the end of the 72 hours, I just pull the thread out of my leg and I am good to go. It’s pretty cool. I have a week off work and I will see how I feel after that.

I am currently nesting…. cleaning, organizing and planning to cook a bunch. I was going to make prime rib for new years day but my dad said that was too much food and then jokely said how about cinnamon rolls. They then said waffles… I think I will make waffles, cinnamon rolls AND prime rib. I am all about left overs. I ordered a bunch of the food from Amazon Fresh which seems very cool. They don’t deliver to Ballard yet but hopefully soon. They do deliver to work so if I had to I could do that. Anyway, I am not sure how I am going to get things done if I can’t walk. Oh well..

Full of Awesomeness.

I am back. The island of Hawaii was insanely awesome. We had the best of time there. My first highlight was snorkeling at Captain Cook Monument. My second highlight was the Volcano and seeing Lava from the helicopter. And finally, my third highlight was the waterfalls on the Hilo side which the helicopter provided us an amazing view.  Oh, and I got to swim with the Dolphins at Dolphin Quest which was insane also!  It was a childhood dream to be able to do that.  All my pictures and Tom’s pictures are uploaded here:

Weight, Surgery and Hawaii

December 5th, 2007 by Nina

I have lost a total of 66.5 pounds. I am not going to reach my 25 pound goal but I am ok with that. At this point, I think it’s 13 pounds. Given my foot injury and Vegas, I’ll take it. The doctor appointment on Friday was interesting (Tom also came with me for the first time!). I have been complaining about being overly tired and such so they went ahead and tested my T3, T4 and TSH (thyroid). My T3 and T4 were excellent however my TSH was kind of in a weird ‘normal’ but not area. With the issues I have been having, the doc agreed to put me on synthyroid. I am down a few days and feeling ok. I hope some things get better because sometimes I am so freakin tired I can’t think or keep up with Tom. She also added back Vitamin D every other week at 50,000 iu.

My foot has still been hurting and I am three months out. I asked about surgery to fix it and spoke with a surgeon on Monday and got a second opinion on Tuesday. I have scheduled surgery for 1/2/08. The first surgeon spent 45 minutes with me going over my MRI and XRay’s. I have a spur coming off my heel bone which I was born with. This is causing my tendon to get annoyed. I also have bone within the tendon itself. He is going to clean both of those items up. The last part of the surgery is actually another cut on the calf area. That will be to length the tendon itself. It isn’t a fun surgery but I am only 29 and had so many problems with it in the past. I will just do it and in 10 years I will be very happy I did… well hopefully less than 10 years. The second opinion was interesting. It was with an Orthopedic Surgeon who was very honest. He appears to be a brand spankin new surgeon who still has to report to the board when he does surgeries. He said he would not operate on me unless I waited three more months because he is so conservative. He agree that if I wanted him to do the surgery, he would be happy to do it so he isn’t against the idea. He confirmed that the surgeon I first saw was a good one so I am sticking with the first dude. I am not concerned about the first surgeon but instead VM killing me. :)

Anyway… thats that. I will be in a fiberglass cast for 8 weeks or so and I am going to try and get a wheelie thing for my leg. They look super fun!

In other news, I will be leaving for the Big Island of Hawaii next Thursday. Tom and I have both been too busy to sit down and figure out what we want to do. We are both just so excited to not have to do anything. Maybe this weekend we will site down…
