75% Vested

March 20th, 2008 by Nina

I have officially worked at F5 Networks for 3 years. It is rather nutty if you ask me. Anyway, thats means I am now 75% vested in our 401k. Soon (30-40 years…) I can retire…

Anyway, I am walking with normal shoes now. It’s not the best walk you have seen but it’s a walk. Standing hurts though.

Oh, I am learning to knit cause I am old and thats what old people do.

Amazon Fresh SUCKS!

February 13th, 2008 by Nina

Darn you Amazon!  Why must you tease me with your Amazon Fresh?? WHY?

I received an email this morning that says Amazon Fresh will no longer have pick-up locations.  That is a big pita because they do not deliver to my centrally located Ballard address!  In addition to it being helpful while I am a gimp… it was making Tom very happy because he hates the grocery store.  None the less… that is over and now I get to listen to his whining every time we go to QFC or whole foods.

Today I have officially been off one foot for six weeks.  Who would have thought I would make it this long?  None the less, I go to the doc on Monday and should be allowed to walk.

Also, to those dorks that want to keep Denny’s in Ballard…. it would be great if you could come clean up the homeless people that are now sleeping there with their comfortable mattresses.   Tom is tired of getting yelled at when he walks by.

January was a very long month.

I am now out of the cast and into a really annoying blue boot. I can wiggle my foot around which seems to cause intense pain my calf and hamstring muscles. I am still two weeks out from walking but none the less, I am moving along. I finally was able to itch like a normal person and get the icky surgery goop off my leg. The scar on my heel is really screwed up and I am not ok with it. As such, I refuse to look at it and even more refuse to touch it of course. Tom seems to really enjoy seeing it.

Yesterday I rolled all over downtown Seattle and had my hair done. That was an interesting experience. Why does it seem like all Spa/Salon places are not ADA compliant? This time, I had to roll down a very steep hill to go in another door to get to the bottom floor. I also got to ride on my first wheelchair elevator. That was fun once he figured out how to use it.

In additional to the foot issue, I have a slight thyroid issue. I had another set of lab work done this week and even after 2-3 months of treatment, my results actually went in the wrong direction. It explains why I am always dragging during the afternoon. Anyway, she doubled my dose so hopefully that will help. Work has been extremely stressful lately so it would be nice if I don’t need toothpicks to hold my eyes opened after 12PM.

On the way to whole foods yesterday, we saw someone wearing a jacket that said “911 was an inside job”. At first I thought, what is wrong with 911? Is it a joke from the 411 folks? What? Then Tom read it out loud and I realized he was talking about 9/11. Darn.

Oh and I am really tired of the cat waking up at 6am everyday. I know your nose is cold kitty… I don’t need to verify this every morning.

Officially DONE

I was wheeling around work when I decided I was officially tired of having the cast on my foot.

Housecleaning is priceless

January 14th, 2008 by Nina

Given my state of gimpness, I hired a cleaning company to come in every other week.  The first time they do a complete spring cleaning on everything… and holy crap.  It’s beautiful in here.  My sink never looked so clean.  I am in clean heaven right now.  The cat has been acting odd though… running around smelling everything.

First full day back at work went ok but it was hard to find a comfortable place for my foot to rest.  Tomorrow I shall drive the new F5 Cafe…. Lemon cod is on the menu apparently.  I hope it’s safe.

Not for the faint of heart…

The fall caused some major pain last night and the doc wanted to see me today. I brought the camera along and the images are posted here:

You should NOT go there if you are squeamish….

Darn…

January 10th, 2008 by Nina

I fell today.  Yesterday, I didn’t quite fall but it was scary none the less.  Today though, I ended up on my butt.  See the issue is, a lot of businesses are not ADA complainant.   This is not something I would have noticed before but I do now.  oh well…  I feel “ok” but I was hurting a lot this morning.  I called the doc to find out what the chances of me hurting something more by falling.  I haven’t heard yet.  This is hard for me since I like to go go go… I have a feeling there won’t be much go go go.  I hope I feel ok tomorrow because I am going to work for the first day.

And please, if you see someone that might have problems opening a door… please help?  I was less than 10 feet away from this woman who I had just rode an elevator with… yet she closed the door in my face.

Oh, and Tom leaves for a company trip on Sunday through Friday.  It is going to be hard but at least I have a house cleaner now.

Weight, Surgery and Hawaii

December 5th, 2007 by Nina

I have lost a total of 66.5 pounds. I am not going to reach my 25 pound goal but I am ok with that. At this point, I think it’s 13 pounds. Given my foot injury and Vegas, I’ll take it. The doctor appointment on Friday was interesting (Tom also came with me for the first time!). I have been complaining about being overly tired and such so they went ahead and tested my T3, T4 and TSH (thyroid). My T3 and T4 were excellent however my TSH was kind of in a weird ‘normal’ but not area. With the issues I have been having, the doc agreed to put me on synthyroid. I am down a few days and feeling ok. I hope some things get better because sometimes I am so freakin tired I can’t think or keep up with Tom. She also added back Vitamin D every other week at 50,000 iu.

My foot has still been hurting and I am three months out. I asked about surgery to fix it and spoke with a surgeon on Monday and got a second opinion on Tuesday. I have scheduled surgery for 1/2/08. The first surgeon spent 45 minutes with me going over my MRI and XRay’s. I have a spur coming off my heel bone which I was born with. This is causing my tendon to get annoyed. I also have bone within the tendon itself. He is going to clean both of those items up. The last part of the surgery is actually another cut on the calf area. That will be to length the tendon itself. It isn’t a fun surgery but I am only 29 and had so many problems with it in the past. I will just do it and in 10 years I will be very happy I did… well hopefully less than 10 years. The second opinion was interesting. It was with an Orthopedic Surgeon who was very honest. He appears to be a brand spankin new surgeon who still has to report to the board when he does surgeries. He said he would not operate on me unless I waited three more months because he is so conservative. He agree that if I wanted him to do the surgery, he would be happy to do it so he isn’t against the idea. He confirmed that the surgeon I first saw was a good one so I am sticking with the first dude. I am not concerned about the first surgeon but instead VM killing me. :)

Anyway… thats that. I will be in a fiberglass cast for 8 weeks or so and I am going to try and get a wheelie thing for my leg. They look super fun!

In other news, I will be leaving for the Big Island of Hawaii next Thursday. Tom and I have both been too busy to sit down and figure out what we want to do. We are both just so excited to not have to do anything. Maybe this weekend we will site down…
